Thirty years ago a Hina – one of the first James Wharrams designed catamarans – was an often seen guest at the Dutch seaside.

The catamaran model is a proven, very successful design and big step forwards compared with the monohull – especially in terms of speed. With the progress of the last century, the synthetics have also become more developed. These synthetics – especially polyester – seem to be extremely suitable for use in the building of pleasure boats. Because of the use of polyester, the catamarans became cheaper, lighter (so faster), but especially easier to maintain. This development resulted in few wooden catamarans being build after the seventies. Those that had been build were often poorly maintained and neglected.
From the year 2007 the Bora-Bora – the whole wooden, gaff riffraff catamaran of 6,5 by 2,5 metre with a saillsurface of 20 m² - is the last Hina in the Netherlands.
